Second Coming Christ: Through the Lesson of the Fig Tree
May 31, 2024
About Two millennia has passed since Jesus Christ came to the earth for the first time. His first coming having been prophesied to happen in the Old Testament scriptures. The disciples through absolute belief in the prophecies of the Old Testament scriptures written by Moses and the prophets were able to identify Jesus as the Christ and the Messiah. (John 1:45)
From Biblical scriptures, it is prophesied that Jesus will appear a second time (Hebrews 9:28) to lead his people to salvation before he comes as the last judge. God gave us a definite sign through the prophetical scriptures, with reference to the second coming of Christ.
In the World Mission Society Church of God, we believe that Christ Ahnsahnghong is the second coming of Christ because he fulfilled this definite sign and all the other prophecies of the Bible with relation to the second coming of Christ.
Through the Bible, let us find out the sign and the prophetic time, which we can recognize Christ Ahnsahnghong who is the second coming of Jesus.
The Sign of the Second Coming Jesus
The disciples asked Jesus the sign of his coming and of the end of the age. (Matthew 24:3) “Your coming” here indicates the second coming of Jesus. In response to the question relating to his sign of coming, Jesus gave them an explanation through the parable of the fig tree.
Matthew 24:32-33 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it (he) is near, right at the door.
Jesus said for us to know the sign signaling his return, we need to learn the lesson from the fig tree, prophesy he gave while on the earth at his first coming. When the fig tree buds, he that is second coming Jesus will be right at the door.
Being that this is the sign through which God’s people can recognize Christ, we must understand and know about the lesson from the fig tree, because if we do not learn about this prophetical lesson we will fail to receive Christ who is to come again.
In addition, we are at a time in fulfillment to Jesus’ prophetical warning when many false prophets are to appear and false Messiahs claiming that they are the Christ (Matthew 24:5, :24) without even knowing the time that Christ is to appear according to the prophecies of the Bible. However, true Christ does not come at a random time but we can be able to know the time of second coming Christ through the parable of the fig tree.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
Matthew 21:18-22 In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry, Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked. Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Mark 11:12-14 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
Jesus Christ was God Almighty who knows everything and came to the earth in the flesh. So he did not curse the fig tree because he was angry at it for not having found figs, but this was a prophesy for us to understand that what he did was in relation to the parable of the fig tree.
What Does the Fig Tree Represent?
Luke 13:6-7 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
The man in the parable of the vineyard refers to Jesus. After Jesus’ baptism at the age of 30 years. He proclaimed the kingdom of heaven and testified about the gospel of the kingdom in his three-year ministry. The fig tree represent Israel and the Israelites compared to the figs, as they did not accept the gospel although Jesus preached for three years searching for a fruit of repentance. (Matthew 3:8)
God through other verses of the Bible show us that the fig tree in the vineyard is the nation of Israel and the figs represent the Israelites.
Jeremiah 24:3-8 Then the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “Figs,” I answered. “The good ones are very good, but the bad ones are so bad they cannot be eaten.” Then the word of the LORD came to me: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians. My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart. “’But like the bad figs, which are so bad they cannot be eaten,’ says the LORD, ‘so will I deal with Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials and the survivors from Jerusalem, whether they remain in this land or live in Egypt.
Through the above verse, God allows us to understand that the fig tree represent the nation Israel and the figs represent the Israelites whether they are poor or good.
Therefore, Jesus cursed the fig tree by the road and made it wither in the books of Matthew 21 and Mark 11, to show us what was eventually going to happen to Israel, which in the parable is represented as the fig tree.
The Fall of Israel
Since Israel rejected the gospel that Jesus preached for three years, it was cut down just like the fig tree in Luke 13:7 that did not bear any fruit. This was a prophesy about the fall of Israel.
Luke 21:20-22 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.
Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be surrounded by armies and destroyed. Just as Jesus foretold, Israel was destroyed by Roman soldiers. There are events in relation to this that happened to Israel after Jesus went up to heaven.
a) First Attack on Jerusalem.
Through Historical records. In A.D 68 – General Vespasian advanced towards Jerusalem to capture it. His army surrounded the city to conquer it but in the same year emperor, Nero died. Vespasian was then forced to withdraw his army back to Rome because of Emperor Nero’s death.
Jesus had earlier clearly prophesied the near desolation of Israel when armies surround it. Therefore, the early Christians who believed Jesus’ words absolutely left Jerusalem when General Vespasian withdrew his army. However, the Israelites who remained in the city mistakenly thought that the Roman army was intimidated by their brave army and withdrew back to Rome.
b) Second Attack on Jerusalem.
Later General Vespasian became the emperor. In A.D 70 his son General Titus attacked the city of Jerusalem and it fell completely being totally destroyed. Number of estimated deaths after the attack was 1.1 million and the number of estimated people taken as captives was 97,000.
Jesus cursed the fruitless fig tree to let us know that such a horrible event would take place and Israel would lose its sovereignty. From that, time on Israel lost its sovereignty like the withered fig tree in the parable. The Israelites became a stateless people wandering and scattered around the whole world. Thus, Israel the fig tree was left dead and barren.
Through Jesus’ action of cursing the fig tree, God insinuates an important teaching, which we must understand. The teaching is to give us the answer for the parable of the fig tree.
Revival of the Fig Tree: – Restoration of Israel
The fig tree in Jesus’ prophecy did not remain lifeless forever but there would come a time when its leaves would come out.
Luke 21:23-24 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Until the times of the gentiles are fulfilled means that Israel described as the withered fig tree will revive at some point in time. In addition, earlier on when the disciples asked Jesus when he will come (Matthew 24:3) Jesus prophesied that the fig tree would revive that is its twigs get tender and its leaves come out.
Therefore, when the prophesied time comes we must remember the important teaching of God through the parable of the fig tree to receive Christ who has come again and is carrying out the gospel work.
When Does Israel Regain Its Sovereignty?
In a remarkable event, described by men as a miracle, after 1,900 years, Israel regained its sovereignty. On May 14th 1948 the first Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion proclaimed and broadcasted to the whole world the independence of his nation, that is revival of Israel. The history of Israel’s revival was a remarkable thousand miles journey, which took place in accordance with God’s providence to fulfil Bible prophecies and not because of man’s efforts.
In order for us to know that Israel would regain its sovereignty in 1948 after 1,900 years having lost it in A.D 70, Jesus said ‘’the twigs of the fig tree would get tender and the leaves will come out.’’ At this time, the whole world is to know that this is the sign of the son of man who is second coming Jesus Christ right at the door.
Other Events Concerning the Truth That Took Place in 1948, Through a Spiritual Point of View
A prophesy is something that can never be altered by men, once God sets and determines a certain course no one can change the course. In relation to this Christ Ahnsahnghong, received baptism in December 1948 at the age of 30 years, the same year the fig tree Israel came back to life, this was in fulfillment of the throne of David prophesy. According to prophecies of the Bible, he began to preach the gospel of the New Covenant and restored the truth of the Passover, which he had proclaimed for only 3 years at his first coming before going up to the heaven.
The truths of life he had established and proclaimed slowly began to be changed-being influenced by Roman culture and tradition. In A.D 321 the Sabbath day, which was on the 7th day of the week Saturday, changed to first Day of the week Sunday. Thereafter in A.D 325, Passover was completely abolished at the council of Nicaea hence plunging the world into the Dark Age period.
For these reasons, Jesus has to return to re-establish all the teachings he taught at his first coming and restore the truth that leads to salvation. (Hebrews 9:28) The Bible prophesied that when the twigs of the fig tree get tender and its leaves come out second coming Christ is right at the door, to fulfill the remaining 37 years of David’s 40 year reign on the throne. This happened so, after finishing restoring the truth and proclaiming the gospel for 37 years, he went back to heaven in 1985.
Who Stands at the Door and Knocks?
Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Above was a letter to the angel of the Church in Laodicea, which the Seventh Day Adventist Church fulfilled its mission. Second coming Christ was prophesied to stand and knock on the door asking us to eat with him, when the figs of the fig tree get tender and its leaves come out.
Father, Christ Ahnsahnghong came to the earth to explain every detail in the Bible to lead us to the truth of life of the new covenant Passover asking us to eat his flesh and drink his blood for eternal life. (John 6:53) hence restoring the truth that had been lost for a long time since A.D 325. He also established Zion where the feats of God are kept making all the people to shout for joy saying ‘’this is our God, we trusted in Him and he saved us’’ (Isaiah 25:6 – 9). Christ Ahnsahnghong fulfilled all these prophecies coming to this earth according to the parable of the fig tree.
Conclusion
Christ Ahnsahnghong is the true second coming Christ testified by all the prophets in the Bible. Just as the disciples, 2000 years ago recognized God in the flesh through the Bible. Members, of the World Mission Society Church of God emulate the same by boldly preaching about Christ Ahnsahnghong to everyone. That he is God who came in the flesh as a man for a second time to bring us salvation. So that those in the dark may see the true light being that, there are so many false Christ’s and false prophets in the world today who claim their doctrines are true. However, there is non-who came to the earth and went up to heaven according to the prophesies of the Bible except Father Ahnsahnghong.
Through many articles like this, we hope everyone comes to know about Christ Ahnsahnghong and prophesies he fulfilled as second coming Jesus.
