In Nairobi, municipal waste is taken to the Dandora dumping site, a former quarry some 15km east.

The local community members have been involved in cleanup campaigns, but due to insufficient resources, they cannot cover the entire region. Burning trash has also proven to be a challenge in the region due to the rainy season, with many piles awaiting appropriate weather days for collection and incineration.

The Hospital Ward Leader, Honourable Mark Thiga, expressed his sincere gratitude and love for the community, thanking the ASEZ members for their efforts. Although he couldn’t participate in the waste management program due to his busy schedule, he provided the necessary resources and personnel to guide the ASEZ members throughout the entire campaign. He also promised to initiate more of such programs for the betterment of the community.

One of the local members, Joshua, expressed his love and thankfulness for the ASEZ members for beautifying their environment once again.

Voluntary waste collection programs like these are essential in promoting sustainable waste management practices and building stronger, more resilient communities. Through participation in these programs, individuals can take meaningful action to reduce their own waste footprint and contribute to creating a more sustainable future for all. We must continue to take action to preserve our planet, both individually and collectively, by reducing waste, promoting sustainability, and respecting the environment. Let us all keep the spirit of this campaign alive by adopting eco-friendly habits and working towards a greener future. Remember, we only have one planet, and it is up to us to take care of it.
