ASEZ WAO’s Environmental Cleanup in Nairobi
June 2, 2024
On June 2nd, 2024, a group of 42 volunteers from ASEZ WAO gathered in Nairobi, Kenya, to contribute to the well-being of our planet. This dedicated volunteer effort took place in the Ngara neighborhood, just 3 km from Nairobi’s Central Business District. Ngara is a vibrant area, home to major office centers and branches of several universities. ASEZ WAO always demonstrates the power of collective action, reminding us that together, we can sow the seeds of compassion and mindfulness, nurturing a culture of empathy and environmental consciousness “It’s not just my garbage, it’s our garbage.”

These words, attributed to environmental enthusiasts, inspire the idea that environmental issues are a shared responsibility. Our pale blue dot, Earth, belongs to all of us. By embracing our responsibility to protect it during this significant paradigm shift, we can create a supportive environment for everyone to thrive in.

The activity involved cleaning the drainage systems, picking up litter along the streets, and collecting trash from temporary dump sites. This remarkable effort inspired local residents and encouraged the County Government to collaborate in collecting the litter. In total, 40 garbage bags were collected and transported to the main collection point in Dandora.

This unwavering volunteer initiative serves as an inspiration to environmental enthusiasts and all citizens of Kenya. The ASEZ volunteer group has demonstrated a comprehensive commitment to saving the Earth, making their efforts a shining example of action from A to Z and inspiring significant change.

Young adults from every corner of the world share a responsibility in combating the effects of global warming and carbon emissions. These cleanup campaigns not only restore the natural beauty of our planet but also foster a renewed sense of stewardship and pride within communities. As we move forward, let us heed the call for positive change and continue to work together towards a cleaner, healthier future for all, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action, and Goal 15: Life on Land. Together, we can make a significant impact in preserving our environment for generations to come.
